About Clearly Canadian Alpacas

We would like to welcome you to Clearly Canadian Alpacas. Our names are Ted Sawchuk and Lila Knaus. Our farm's slogan is that we are committed to Canada's northern vigor' which for us encompasses the desire to operate not only our alpaca farm but also our lives in such a way as to bring strength, vitality and longevity to the alpaca as a breed and also to the Canadian alpaca industry as a whole.

The inuksuk in our logo is a symbol of that commitment as it is exclusively identifiable to Canada, which is our aim in the development of our alpaca herd and our farm's integrity. The inuksuk is literally a marker utilized to point out to others passing by the safest route, the best area for exploration and discovery. It is a navigational tool indicating the best route to take and alerts others to good fortune and where life is renewed. It is the symbol of strength, durability, solidity and timelessness. Over all the inuksuk was and still is a significant tool for communicating important information to all which we hope our website will be for you.

Clearly Canadian Alpacas began in the spring of 2001 with one boarded female, MMR Catira, of the Casanova II lineage. She is the grand dam and mother superior of our farm and we enjoy greatly her wit, humour and mischievous antics. Next was the purchase of a superb herdsire, R&R Spiderman, who has come into his own at six years old carrying with him the longevity of fleece quality, the solidness of conformation and character along with a spirit and grace that represents our farm.

We now are hands on with our herd as we have removed our alpacas from boarding and they reside with us at our farm near Wiseton, Sk. which is situated on 14 acres overlooking a small lake to the west. It is a peaceful location which was established in 1913 and we have the privilege of residing in a glorious one hundred year old Eaton's catalogue house with all it's history, character and charm; another nod to our Canadian heritage.

Our herd has now expanded to 25 with more on the way. Each of our purchased or 'to be bred' alpaca being carefully hand selected. Our focus in selecting and growing our alpaca herd is primarily towards fleece production with our priorities being that of uniformity and fineness. Uniformity is a very important factor to us over even the fineness of micron as we wish to produce a whole and complete package in our alpacas that utilizes more than just the blanket for our finest end products. Uniformity makes for softer feeling fleece even if the micron is not totally there yet. It makes things simpler, too, come shearing time as it cuts out much skirting, sorting, time and energy.

Correct and balanced conformation is of utmost importance to us, also, in order for our alpacas to enjoy vibrant health and the foundational structure to support a top grade fleece. The qualities of density, crimp & staple length (along with the priorities of micron, uniformity and conformation) are incorporated into our herd with the reputable and proven genetics from the Guivir Zorro, Alpa Mayo, Hemingway, Casanova II, Coyo Destiny, Camilio Jr. and Bolivian First Class lineages along with some unknown lines to name a few. All bring to our farm the combined whole of all the characteristics that we wish to instill in our growing herd.

We hope that you will enjoy our website. We are proud to introduce you to our growing herd. At this time we offer breeding services along with some end product. Please feel free to contact us at any time for more information or stop by for a visit.

This website is dedicated to our beloved alpacas along with our two handsome and hard working Pyrenees guard dogs, Scout & Chief.
